The Norwegian research institute SINTEF has been doing reserarch indicating that hurricanes can be prevented by Bubble curtains bringing cold water from the deep up to the surface to cool the surface water. This will slow down or stop the formation and powering of hurricanes, that depent on at surface temperatur of at least 26,5 degrees C to work.
Norwegian company OceanTherm has adapted the idea and are doing testing and is seeking funding for further development of the technology. As collegues in the bubble curtain and water environment works, we at WAENS wish them the best of luck!
